The MSC Foundation has partnered with the Horn Foundation of world-renowned explorer Mike Horn to support its Pangaea X Programme, conceived to help young people develop impactful projects that contribute to achieving certain key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Salient amongst these are SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 14 - Life Below Water, and SDG 15 - Life On Land.
The Pangaea X intensive training and coaching programme equips its young participants with the essential tools, knowledge and resources to analyse, assess and design their own environmentally-driven projects. The programme will be delivered through an online platform, face-to-face workshops, mentorships and networking events with the aim of encouraging young individuals to become agents of social change in their communities.
Addressing a broad spectrum of environmental threats, including natural resource depletion, biodiversity loss and climate change, Pangaea X aims to fill a gap in current environmental efforts by fostering innovation and collaboration between young people, experts and stakeholders.
An additional thrust of the programme is to counter a lack of environmental awareness and education among young people that is a major barrier to their involvement in environmental sustainability projects.
Pangaea X targets environmentally passionate young individuals eager to make a positive impact on their communities and the planet, aiming to attract approximately 1,000 participants to its online workshops every year, while making a more significant impact on the 10 teams selected to contribute directly to addressing the above-mentioned SDGs.
Challenges
Lack of environmental awareness among youth.
Limited resources and support for youth-led environmental projects.
Depletion of natural resources and loss of biodiversity, including 8,000+ at-risk coral species globally.
The threat of climate change to the environment and ecosystems.
