Bringing clean water back to Savyntsi: a story of collective support

The Foundation has helped rebuild vital water infrastructure in Eastern Ukraine thanks to the caring generosity of MSC colleagues and stakeholders and full donation matching by the MSC Foundation

Focus Area: Emergency Relief

When the Ukraine war erupted, the MSC Foundation responded swiftly to provide emergency relief for the immediate needs of impacted communities. We then built on this initial response, extending our support to aid the reconstruction of a damaged vital water infrastructure. In this we were helped by the extraordinary generosity of our MSC Group colleagues and stakeholders, which was doubled by the Foundation matching every individual donation.

This constant heartfelt response to the MSC Foundation’s 'Joining Hands for Ukraine' campaign led us to partner with the Swiss humanitarian organisation MEDAIR to restore vital infrastructure serving Savyntsi in Kharkiv Oblast. The small community here had been left without clean water following the severe damage inflicted on its water supply during the early stages of the conflict.

From November 2023, the project rehabilitated 1,125 metres of pipeline, replaced valves, installed a new pump and restored the water tower. These efforts have now re-established the supply of safe drinking water to 4,256 people, including 455 children, bringing renewed hope and stability to the community.

The 'Joining Hands for Ukraine' campaign is a concrete example of the wonderful impact we can achieve through collective action, having enabled the MSC Foundation to make a meaningful difference in rebuilding Savyntsi and the life of its community.
