Marevivo School Year 2023-2024

08 JULY 2024

Celebrating the end of the school year with NauticinBlu and Guardian Dolphins Programmes

Supporting these Marevivo programmes over the years, we proudly present the impressive results of the 2023-2024 academic session.

Focus areas: Education, Environmental Conservation

As the school year draws to a close, we’re proud to see success blooming with two significant educational programmes we’re helping to sustain: NauticinBlu and Guardian Dolphins of the Islands. These two programmes, led by Marevivo, foster environmental awareness and prepare the next generation for careers in marine conservation, and they’ve made remarkable progress this year.

NauticinBlu: Preparing Future Marine Professionals

Started in 2017, NauticinBlu is an intensive 4-day course which seeks to engage and empower students at Nautical Institutes – secondary-level technical schools specialising in marine transport and logistics. The programme helps students build a foundation for their future careers, preparing them for the workforce in the growing field of Blue Jobs, which focuses on environmental and scientific work.

This school year, NauticinBlu engaged 1,324 students from 19 schools across 19 cities, with one in Spain, one in Portugal, one in Greece, and 13 across Italy. 98 teachers and managers took part in the programme, and it was supported by 30 educational and research institutions. These numbers are a mark of the programme's continued success, equipping future marine professionals with the skills and knowledge they will need to address the challenges faced by our seas and oceans and develop solutions which will nourish and preserve our marine environments for the future.

Guardian Dolphins of the Islands: Nurturing Young Environmental Stewards

Launched in 2015, the Guardian Dolphins of the Islands programme is an educational initiative for primary and middle school children. Combining multidisciplinary lessons with experiential learning experiences and outdoor activities, this programme nurtures a deeper understanding and responsibility for marine conservation.

This school year, 1,635 young Guardian Dolphins participated from 27 schools across 11 islands and one city. The initiative involved 300 teachers and reached 5,000 family members, fostering a community-wide approach to marine conservation. In addition, it sparked the introduction of four new "Blue Corners" in schools, providing designated spaces equipped with environmental education materials. Through this initiative, students have gained hands-on experiences, and the programme as a whole significantly contributed to cultivating environmental awareness among young learners.

Looking ahead

We at the MSC Foundation are thrilled with the progress made by both NauticinBlu and Guardian Dolphins this school year. Not only have these programmes equipped students with valuable skills and knowledge, but they have also fostered a strong culture of environmental stewardship and responsibility.

As we look forward to the next school year, we remain committed to supporting these impactful initiatives. Together, we can continue to nurture the next generation of marine professionals and environmental stewards, ensuring a sustainable future for our oceans and seas.
